An Interpretation of the Government Shutdown.

English: Ted Cruz at the Republican Leadership...If I understand the popular account of the Teaparty’s role in the recent fiscal disaster, The fight the GOP could have won is the debt ceiling debate. Focusing on Obamacare, and letting Harry Reid close the government, provided a distraction from the failure of the Obamacare role out.

Ted Cruz long speech on Obamacare, some how held up negotiations. Yet Harry Reid conducted the real filibuster by holding up the House CR until the last minute. Harry Reid did what he does best. Nothing. MSM focused on the evil Cruz and the evil Teaparty. But does anyone believe that would have been any different. Cruz and the Teaparty will always be the cause of all evil. Cruz efforts did put Obamacare in the public spotlight. They had to provide some coverage of the failure even if it was minimal. I heard more coverage of Hollywood “news” in the last two weeks. I credit Cruz and the Teaparty with forcing at least some coverage of the failure.

The establishment GOP tells us the fight that could have been won is the Debt Ceiling. Somehow Obama and Reid were supposed to have cared about the Government going into default. Yet while Boehner promised the Government would not go into default. Obama promised to blame Republicans. Who cared about the nation more? The GOP caved.

As far as I can tell this fight that the establishment wanted is one they couldn’t win. They do care more about the country than the Democrat leadership. And Cruz forced MSM to provide at least some coverage Obamacare role out.

Was the shutdown worth it? I’m not sure. The budget failure seem to be permanent. Democrats know they don’t need to negotiate. The House has lost the “power of the purse”. But the ground work has been laid to continue the fight against Obamacare. When Juan Williams whines that the Teaparty prevented sufficient funding for advertising Obamacare (Bret Baier 10/18/2013), the left is really flailing over the role out failure. More advertising would make the software run better? Maybe more conferences would have helped? The tactic is the same as explaining the trillion dollar Stimulus Act Failure, not enough borrowing, as if we needed more Solyndras. This gives puts more pressure on Obamacare, and maybe it will he harder to shift from Obamacare to single payer – run by the same people who brought us Obamacare.

The GOP will lose in the long run, if the different factions continue to preen before the extremist left wing MSM. They must learn to deal with their differences in private, and decide on some common goals and work together.

We may have lost the battle, but the war goes on.
